In this post i will guide you to choose your first camera based on your needs, don't expect me to tell you "go and buy the X camera" there are a ton of photography cameras out there just because every person has different needs.
If you got tired from phone quality and want to take good pictures with a little effort then P&S is for you, close this page and go here.

If you want to learn more about photography and get some awesome photos then DSLR is the way to go.
First of all, there are two types of dslr based on their sensor:
They both have their advantages and disadvantages.
Full Frame sensors are bigger than Cropped Frame, they produce much better images and used by pro photographers. They are difficult and expensive to make thats why their price is about the double from Cropped Frame.
Cropped Frame are cheaper than Full Frame but they are not so good in low light conditions. They produce a lot of noise at high iso (What is iso noise?) compared to a Full Frame. In addition, they have a crop factor which means that if we take the same photo (same settings, lens, conditions) with a Cropped and a Full frame, the image on the Cropped sensor will be zoomed in.
As you can see the sensor(the white square in the middle) is bigger on the Full Frame(right) camera!
Which one should I buy?
If money is not an issue for you then go for Full Frame.I recommend you to buy a Cropped Frame and then if you are not happy, after you learn how to control your camera, upgrade to Full Frame.
Make a quick shopping search and you will find out that Nikon and Canon are dominate the market.
Nikon Full Frame cameras are called FX.Some model names are: D4S, D610, D800E, D3S, D3X, D700.
Nikon Cropped Frame cameras are called DX.Some model names are: D3300, D5300, D7100, D7000.
Canon Full Frame cameras are called Full Frame. Some model names are: 5D, 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III.
Canon Cropped Frame cameras are called APS-C.Some model names are: 7D, 350D, 70D, 700D
Canon vs Nikon, Nikon vs Canon
There are a lot of nikon and canon fanboys out there that are debating what brand is better...After 5 years of experience i would tell you that with both cameras you can get outstanding photographs.A lot of people(+ me) are saying "canon for video and nikon for photography" but keep in mind that a lot of times is the other way around.
